Garden Anywhere; Compost Anywhere; Thrive Anywhere
Vertical Gardening is such a creative way to bring beautiful gardens and fresh food right to your fingertips, no matter where you live. Garden Tower Project has developed an exciting new vertical gardening system. The Garden Tower grows plants vertically, enabling you to grow 50 plants in a very small space -- the ultimate square foot garden with integrated vermicomposting!
Not Your Average Planter
Most container gardens only allow planting on the top. The Garden Tower has 45 openings around the outside and space for up to 5 taller plants on top, resulting in an impressively bountiful harvest. Along with the top, side planting pockets are large enough to accommodate compact root vegetables such as turnips, carrots, and radishes as well as strawberries, herbs, flowers, leafy and micro greens. Plants grow faster, stronger, and healthier in the Garden Tower because they are protected in their own special micro-climate. So, not only are you growing a maximum harvest in a minimum space, you are doing it in a very eco-friendly way.
Let The Worms Do The Dirty Work
A special tube inside the Garden Tower is designed especially for compost. Add in worms and your kitchen scraps from fruits, vegetables, egg shells, grains, tea and coffee grounds for a fertilizer that will encourage even stronger and bigger plant growth naturally. What an amazing cycle if you stop the think about it. The left over or discarded parts of the plants your are growing can go back in to provide nutrients to your new plant growth. As you water your planter with compost in it, the water is steeped in a hearty brew of “compost tea” and “worm tea” via the vermicompost tube and returned to the soil repeatedly. One unexpected bonus of this rapid growth is that you can grow a larger crop of spring vegetables before replacing them with summer plants. The compost tube is a 6-inch diameter cylinder running down the center of the Garden Tower. The tube has holes running down the entire length that allow red wiggler worms to travel between the compost tube and the soil. The worms feed on the kitchen scraps and leave rich worm castings behind. As you water the soil, this water collects vital nutrients as it passes through compost-worm castings and collects and drains at the bottom of the unit.
Not Just For Your Backyard
Teachers can show children hands on how plants and life cycles develop with more than just a seedling sent home in a cup. They can instill pride and boost self esteem by teaching them a life long and rewarding skill. Pair that with sharing the food within the school or community to foster a love of giving back and helping others. Start a community garden so more people can have access to fresh, organic foods. Set one up in the workplace to promote a healthier work environment. The social mission of Garden Tower Project teaches kids the importance of connecting hunger issues in their community and the world, while showing a way to help out.
